The Land

All the products selected by the Borgo Sosio Company are grown in the countryside around Chiusa Sclafani and Contessa Entellina and various hamlets, such as Carrubba di Caccia, Martusa, Alvanello and Stazzone.

And it was precisely in these areas and in the neighbouring towns of Bivona  and Burgio (in the province of Agrigento) that the Nature Reserve of Monti di Palazzo Adriano and Valle del Sosio was established, subsequently incorporated into the Monti Sicani Park in 2012.

The distance between the sea and the main cities on the island of Sicily have enabled this area to retain its character and tastes, harking back to times past.  On arriving, it is easy to come across some of the most beautiful and luxuriant forests throughout Sicily, landscape, fauna and the Sosio river which meanders across this region as a fundamental element of the countryside. 

Today the whole area falls within two Sites of Community Interest (SCI): the Bosco di Sant’Adriano (the Sant’Adriano Wood) and the Montagna delle Rose, Monte Pernice which, together with various nature reserves in the surrounding area, form part of the landscape of the wilds of Monti Sicani.
